Burnout Tumbler – Pop Top Lid

Rated 4.71 out of 5 based on 7 customer ratings
(7 customer reviews)

$69.99 – $79.99

  • INSTANT DRINKABILITY. The traditional popular insulated vacuum double-wall mugs keep your coffee hot. Really hot. In fact, they keep your coffee so hot you have to wait for them to cool down. Who wants to wait? BURNOUT was developed by a group of aerospace industry thermal engineers who were tired of waiting. BURNOUT cools your coffee in minutes and helps you enjoy coffee immediately.
  • NEW LOCKING LID. BURNOUT’s new pop top lid includes better insulation for longer hold temperatures. It features spring loaded lock button for one handed opening on the go and safe storage when not in use. It comes completely apart for easy cleaning.
  • LIFE-TIME WARRANTY. Burnout is MADE IN USA of U.S. & imported parts and uniquely serialized to ensure its lifetime warranty. Love your coffee – get the BURNOUT! 18/8 stainless steel and dishwasher safe.
  • NO MORE “LIP” DANCING. Using the science behind our special synthetic thermal beeswax called Heatzorb, you can customize BURNOUT to the ideal temperature. This totally prevents the scalding temperatures that made traditional mugs a possible health risk.
  • NO BATTERIES needed. BURNOUT’s Drink Now Technology quickly absorbs and stores the extra heat from the coffee, allowing you to drink your coffee almost immediately. The stored thermal energy is then used to keep your coffee at that optimal drinking temperature for hours! No reheating is needed.

  • BURNOUT is an innovative new product that was literally designed by rocket scientists. ThermAvant International specializes in the integration of military and space application heat transfer technology into consumer products. Our first major product to market is a temperature regulating travel mug that operates without the use of electricity using a 100% renewable material called HeatZorb. Branded as BURNOUT, the first version of this travel mug quite literally takes the “burn out” of a scalding cup of coffee. It does this by cooling the coffee from a dangerously high brewing temperature down to the perfect drinking temperature right away. It then holds the perfect temperature range all day instead of cooling off too quickly. It also holds cold drinks ice cold all day. BURNOUT operates using the biobased, synthetic beeswax, HeatZorb, which is built into the wall of the stainless steel tumbler and melts at a very specific temperature. When a hot drink is poured into a BURNOUT, HeatZorb melts in its chamber, absorbing and storing the extra heat, which cools the beverage to the right temperature. Once the optimal temperature is reached, HeatZorb automatically starts releasing that stored heat back into the drink to maintain that perfect drinking temperature all day. In addition to the thermal performance, BURNOUT is dishwasher safe and made at our factory in Missouri, USA. This makes us, to our knowledge, the only stainless steel drinkware manufacturer in the United States. From hunters to skiers and office warriors to truckers, coffee and tea are the lifeline for a large majority of the working adult population. BURNOUT’s Drinknow technology is here with one mission. Fight the fire. Keep the heat.

  1. Question

What is the height of the 16 oz. mug? The original Burnout 16 oz. doesn’t quite fit under my Keurig.

What is the diameter of the mug base please? Millimetres preferred and if greater than 65mm it’s a non starter for us. Thanks in advance,

By my measurement it’s 73mm diameter. If you’re still searching, my Zojirushi 12oz is 65mm, though it doesn’t have the same temperature control feature (the material for which presumably gives the Burnout mug the extra width).

Our pop-top lid does have a rather large circular opening you drink out of. We do not currently have a lid designed specifically for straw usage, but that one would work with a straw.

    Thank you!

    William Foster – April 20, 2024

I’m happy to see you’re now selling this travel mug with the pop-top lid. I bought the original mug with the “Easy-Drink” slide closure and really disliked it. (So did a lot of other people, if one can believe the Amazon reviews.) I bought a separate pop-top lid, and it is MUCH better. So what are you waiting for? Pick a size (12 or 16 oz; I’d go big.) and buy one. You won’t be sorry.

    Can't live without it

    David Hart – August 5, 2024

It is better than advertised. I pour a cup that I intend to sip on from about 8:00 until just before lunch. When I travel I want it to last at least 4 hours. I preheat the 12 oz mug with hot water (not boiling) and about three minutes later I empty it a fill with fresh coffee.
I have on occasion gone back to it with a little left at 4:00 in the afternoon and it was still the same drinking temp as the first sip. I have had Yetis, Stanley, Starbucks — and a number of others. They are just no match for the drinkability of this cup and their leak proof cups/mugs are not as good as this one.
This is pricey for coffee cups/mugs but if you drink MANY HOT drinks at all you will find that in the long run it is a bargain. I have had mine 8 months and pity the foolish person who tries to take it away from me.

    Lid and customer service

Dan Ailes (verified owner) – February 16, 2025

I don’t care for the lid. It opens to easily and has spilled twice. I am moving around a lot and want to trust it doesn’t spill. Also the lid puts liquid dots on your forehead when drinking or you kind of get it at an angle. Acceptable for cheap mug but not one for $80. I have emailed two times as I would like to try the slide lid with absolutely no response. I guess rocket engineers don’t care much for customer service. Was about to buy two, glad I did not. Also just a personal preference, I don’t like how much it cools the hot liquid. I pre-soak it in boiling water first to reduce the excess temp change. Some like it, not me. Thanks for no response!

Yes, if you preheat the mug with boiling water, let it sit in the mug for a minute, empty it, then add a very hot drink immediately after, it’ll keep it hotter since the Heatzorb will have absorbed lots of heat.

I would love to buy one, but the lid seems to be a problem. Reviews for the original lid suggest trouble with leaks and difficult cleaning. The new pop-top lid looks pretty annoying – the flip-up part would be right in your face while drinking. If you offered a lid with a carry handle and a good seal that doesn’t flip up (there are several good designs on other brands) I’d be all in!

  30. IT REALLY WORKS!

    Oliver – May 22, 2023

My wife got me the TUmbler with Pop Top Lid for my birthday and the first day I used it, it fell off a table…dented the bottom and the top flew open, spilling coffee. The list still seems to work properly and the coffee remained the perfect temp to the last sip! I tossed some ice and coffee in the afternoon and it kept that temp just fine all afternoon! I’m on day 2 right now, and still working like a charm!

I don’t condone letting it fall, but just wanted to report….it’s doing what it was designed to do! Love it!

I searched for 6 months on and off looking for an American made insulated mug. For months all I saw were the same thing and all made in China. I can’t stand that crap. Finally, right as I was about to give up I found Burnout. It is exactly the product that is advertised and works just as well and beyond what I could’ve hoped.
I am a diehard American made fan and gladly spent the extra money for an amazing USA made product that I use every day and I’m proud to share with my friends.

be able to drink it right away. Initially I was skeptical that the Burnout Tumbler would work as advertised.
And it works amazingly well! My coffee and tea goes into the tumbler boiling hot and is within minutes at the perfect drinking temperature and stays there for hours.
I’m very excited, truly a great product.

The tumblers with pop top lid here are 16 oz. By the way, the pop top lids would also fit 12 oz Burnout tumblers.

While not every lid is created equally, and we do have some issues with leaking on occasion, all of our lids for tumblers should be leak-proof.

    Tried and True

I’ve had one for about a year. I spent months searching for a made in America travel mug and this is as close as it comes. Every company has to source some things from overseas, and Burnout is making the effort to get as much done in America as possible. I wanted to do a trial run and now I’m back to buy more. I have washed it multiple times in the dishwasher and it held up better than some of the other mugs I’ve had to the point where I’m handwashing it now so that I can use it everyday. I have the flip top lid. Someone said the lid pops open, but the button has a tab that you slide up to lock it so no problems there. Someone also said that the lid hits their nose. This occasionally happens to me, but the lid can be opened one notch wider and that seems to do the trick. I pour warm water in mine in the morning and let it set while I have my breakfast, then I empty it out and pour in my hot tea. It is too hot for about an hour, but then I get a good 5+ hours of perfect temperature.
